"Yach Ka” (the steelhead) Bronze, L 24" x w3" 2006 edition #2 of 7 ($9,165) |
The name "yach ka" comes from the Obispanian dialect of the
Chumash, (pronounced: shu'-masch) the indigenous people of the California central coast. Steelhead were their favorite freshwater fish. The first one of this edition was placed in the fountain at the plaza of the Mission in San Luis Obispo, California, within eating range of the Grizzly Bear. It was a gift from the city to honor the retirement of beloved past mayor and many times City Council member, Kenneth Schwartze. |
