"Otter Touching It's Tail" Cast concrete w24" x h36 Purchased by the Santa Cruz Arts Comm. 1993 17th Ave. Neighborhood Park, Santa Cruz, CA |
The best thing about this project, besides winning the commission, was watching the kids, instantly surround and start climbing on, around and through the piece, the moment it was installed in the playground. The Santa Cruz Arts Commission worked with the advisory committee of the community park, to choose a design that would give a feel of the natural environment, and also be kid friendly. Using that criteria, this is a successful piece, as can be seen by the fact that the grass needs to be re-seeded every so often, it is worn bare around the base from the kids climbing on it. Otters play in the bay a short distance from the park.   |
