Large Bronze Frog #2 "Cal"
Bronze, h30” x w34"x d40" 2008
edition #2 of 4  ($22,000)

Cal is the name that was given to this large frog by the people who
first took him home.  I believe it came from the Calaveras County
Jumping Frog story by Mark Twain.  That particular one was a Red-Legged Frog.
I actually looked at many photos of those frogs, while sculpting this one,
This fellow is much more rounded and stylized than then the real red-legged one.
Larger than a real frog, he is 40" from nose to rear, and weighs approximately 120#'s.

I'd never been too fond of frogs, but a friend asked me to try sculpting one,
In preparation for a sculpture, usually I do several drawings first.

As always happens, drawing something helps me learn to love it.

Now, whenever one hops into my life it makes me feel quite happy.
