"Saudade" oil on canvas, h24"x w24"

If you saw the painting "Card Players" then you may well
recognize these stone cube seats and the table. This painting
started as a study, playing with the way the light would fall on
this same setting, at varying times of the day.

   However, the table was located on the grounds of the Castello
   Sao Jorge, in Lisbon, and if you have ever passed any time there,
   you know the view of the harbor, the old women in black,
   and the Fado. So it became more than a study. It's now a story.
You can make up your own about it , as yours would be just as
good as mine.

   "Saudade" is a Portuguese word that has to do with the feelings
    of longing- for something that was, and can never be again,
    of pride, and sweetness, and somehow a satisfaction.
    A beautiful word.
