A New Year Happy New Year to you all. The middle of last year my beloved Mac hard drive "bit the dust". Because backing up regularly was not part of my routine, I lost a great many of my e-mail addresses. So if you wonder why you might not of heard from me, that could be the reason. Write to me! The newer operating systems have a handy dandy super duper back up system that makes it simple as pie to back up every single bitty thing on the entire computer. Very cool. One of the best things I did last year was to write and illustrate, or illuminate, two hand made books, the first was about a "Little White Horse", and the other about Peace. Some of the Peace book pages are shown here, I'd like to revise it with type, instead of my crazy handwriting, and plan to do that sometime this year. It would be great fun to get it published. We'll see. The work was inspired by an invitation from my friend, Julie Frankel, to be part of the Steynberg Gallery's Peace Library exhibit~ hand bound artists books on the theme of war, peace and the state of our nation. I chose to focus on our own personal inner peace. This past year I also donated paintings to four art auctions, something I haven't done for several years, it just seemed like a good thing to do. (The Heart and Soul Animal Sanctuary, the Wolf foundation, both here in Santa Fe, New Mexico, CAPs, a fundraiser for the schools on the Central Coast in California, and The Furr Ball, a fundraiser for cats in the Los Angeles area.) I've been goofing off a bit, art wise, giving riding lessons and helping friends with their young horses, as well as working with mine, living my life as art, not necessarily living my life to create artwork. Doing that book reconnected me to my love of books and typography, and illustration. I'm thinking of it more as "illumination" now, and will be doing more things along that line. For now I'm at work on some one-of-a kind hand built sculptures, things that are not intended to be duplicated with a mold into bronze or any other medium. I'm looking forward to painting them, combining my love of color and design with sculpting. My other half, Tom Reno, now has a website, showing his beautiful new abstract paintings - very different from my work, but you may enjoy it, or know someone else who would like to see it. www.Tom Scott Reno.com. If you like this little newsletter, and know of anyone else that might enjoy my artwork, please, pass it along to them for me. Check out the paintings and sculptures that are for sale on the other pages of this website, along with the notecards in the "Gift Shop". Any inquires and or purchases are warmly and thankfully accepted! That's all for now, back to work, lots of love, see you in a while! ~ Paula Feedback? Questions? Talk to me...! |
