| "Chinle Dog" oil on canvas, h26"x w28" -sold |

Chinle is the small town near Canyon de Chelly on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Sadly there is a great deal of poverty, along with the great Navajo sense of humor, and beautiful traditions. A friend and I stayed in a hotel near the canyon for a couple of nights. There were several mama dogs skulking around the doors, looking for handouts. This painting shows one of them, with a nice smooth brown coat, wishing for something to eat, and her shadow checking out a food bowl. Behind them is a spirit dog, who knows that at another level, everything is okay, and all is well. |
