I went to Lisbon, Portugal with a friend to train at a classical riding school for a week or so. After working we would go explore. The Castello Sao Jorge was a real classical castle, with a moat, colorful flags waving and those wonderful notches along the top for archers to defend from. It's now a tourist destination. The moat is filled with mowed grass, not water. There is highly sophisticated and modern architecture for the restaurant and gift shop. Like Portugal itself, a mix of old and new. These older gents probably came here every day to play cards, and gossip, at the limestone table. Seated on the limestone cubes,by an ancient castle wall. |
